What is ILION?

ILION (Intelligent Logic Identity Operations Network) is a deterministic pre-execution safety gate that classifies and blocks unauthorized real-world actions proposed by autonomous AI agents at sub-millisecond latency.

Instead of relying on statistical machine learning models that guess whether text is harmful, ILION utilizes a five-component cascade architecture to deterministically evaluate structural execution threats. It instantly classifies proposed agent actions—such as filesystem modifications, database queries, or external API calls—as either ALLOW or BLOCK based on rigorous logic gates, requiring zero labeled training data.

Why It Matters

Standard text-safety moderation APIs are designed to catch linguistic harm (like hate speech or toxicity) and are practically useless for catching malicious executable actions like rm -rf / or unauthorized data exfiltration. ILION provides a critical missing layer in AI safety: a practical, interpretable guardrail that operates 2,000 times faster than statistical alternatives with a radically lower false-positive rate, enabling safe deployment of agentic systems.

How It Works

When an AI agent attempts to execute a tool or command, the request is intercepted by ILION before execution. The cascade architecture analyzes the structural components of the request against the agent’s specific authorization scope. Because it uses deterministic logic rather than neural network inference, it provides a mathematical guarantee of compliance. It produces a clear, interpretable verdict in roughly 143 microseconds, ensuring it doesn’t bottleneck agent performance.

Example

An autonomous coding agent is tasked with refactoring a web application. During the process, the agent mistakenly attempts to execute a shell command that would overwrite critical server environment variables. A traditional text-safety model would pass the command because the language isn’t "toxic." However, ILION intercepts the API call, deterministically evaluates that modifying the /etc/environment path is outside the agent’s authorized scope, and immediately issues a BLOCK verdict, preventing catastrophic system failure.
